The Drac Pack is Back!

Longtime visitors to The Comic Fanatic.Com are well aware that I am a huge fan of Jason Henderson’s Sword of Dracula. Henderson’s new spin on the classic Count Dracula has been the most original look at the Lord of the Vampires since Stoker put pen to paper all those years ago. And this is a premise that I would love to see on the spinner racks on a monthly basis. So I eagerly await and take whatever Sword of Dracula goodness that I can get. The latest morsel? Sword of Dracula/Vampirella.

Now, a lot of folks will look at that title alone and think “unnecessary team up with lots of gratuitous cleavage shots”…and you would be dead wrong on so many levels. If you have been a fan of Sword of Dracula and you picked up the original miniseries or trade, then picked up the first Sword of Dracula Digital Webbing issue, you MUST read this one.

SOD/Vampi is more than just a team-up. This one-shot is a must-read continuation of the entire Sword of Dracula saga. Henderson begins the issue with an action sequence pulled straight from the silver screen. You keep half expecting to see Bruce Willis pop up somewhere before the bullets and the blood start flying!

After immediately pulling the reader in with the intense action, Henderson develops a strong story that not only ties Ronnie Van Helsing and the Sword of Dracula universe into Vampirella’s universe, it also suggests that these two femme fatales have an untold history together…a history that simply begs to be told.

Without giving too much away, I will say that this one-shot fits perfectly in line with previous SOD comics. Henderson doesn’t force anything with this team up. It all appears to occur naturally within SOD continuity, and further serves to enhance Henderson’s already lovable cast of characters…at least the ones who survive.

And let’s not forget the art. SOD fans - and newcomers alike - will be thrilled to see original SOD artist Greg Scott return to the fold to provide some of his best work to date. And that’s saying a lot when it comes to this talented artist! Scott brings this thrilling tale to vibrant life with lifelike characters and another one of Henderson’s ingenious uses of Dracula’s control over blood - a scene you have to see to believe!

Sword of Dracula/Vampirella is a must-MUST-have - a continuation of the SOD saga, a grand example as to why this is a title that should be on the spinner racks each and every month and a primer to the next chapter in the SOD saga, “The Dracula War”, which frankly can’t get here soon enough! Sink your fangs into this one!
