Rating: Three out of five Cults of Kagan.

Few comics can adapt a videogame into a comic book well, but I think this issue really works.

Prime Cuts #2 Review @ Reporting on Marvels…

Prime Cuts #2 - Ah, the closest I come to supporting indie comics, I suppose. I dig this cover (Bilbao cover), if only because there are about three different ways I interpret it. 1) She’s gesturing towards the creature, in sort of a nonchalant “ta-da!”. 2) She’s about to get attacked by it, and is flippantly dismissing it as a threat. 3) It almost looks like she’s about to pet it on the side of its head.

BloodRayne: Prime Cuts #2
by Chad Lambert, Ignacio Calero, Jake Bilbao, Dan Campos
The “stories within the story” of the groundbreaking video games continue with three blood-spattering prime cuts! This issue features a suicide bomber with a soul, the hunt for Kagan’s trans-dimensional nunchucks, and an evil so sinister it could only thrive in corporate America!

BR003_03.jpgPrime Cuts #1 hits on February 27th with #2 already at the printer. So Prime Cuts #3 will be here in no time. We’re targeting an August release and have already begun work on Prime Cuts #4 (with the return of Steve Scott, artist from BloodRayne Twin Blades, working on a short story to match his cover).

Here’s a peek at a great, new BloodRayne artist who we hope to keep around for a long while. If not on BloodRayne, definitely something new we have planned by year’s end. Oscar Bazaldua is sure to build a huge following as more of his work is seen by comic book fans.

BRTR001_01.jpgHere’s a page from BloodRayne: Tokyo Rogue #1. Written by regular BloodRayne storyteller Troy Wall, penciled by newcomer Jake Bilbao (who also did two stories in the upcoming Prime Cuts #1 and #2), inked by our buddy John Waki, and colored by groovy Joel Seguin.

This issue will definitely please Rayne fans looking for action. The whole issue is a enormous fight scene. Oh yeah, we also slip in Ayano, a character who plays a major role in this mini-series.

Look for more previews posted here shortly. Look for BloodRayne Tokyo Rogue #1 in comic shops this May. Ask your comic shop for Digital Webbing comics!

BLOODRAYNE PRIME CUTS #1
by Chad Lambert, Chad Hardin, Jake Bilbao
Ever wonder what happened between the two groundbreaking BloodRayne video games? Prime Cuts offers two bloody tales that set the stage! First, the Cult of Kagan kidnaps a member of the Brimstone Society and guess who has to spring the trap? Next, a mysterious foe thought long-dead from the first game is back and he’s…robbing a convenience store?

Talking BloodRayne: Automaton

kdmelrose | BloodRayne, Interviews No Comments »

In preparation for the release this week of BloodRayne: Automaton, my debut on the title, regular series writer Troy Wall lobbed some questions in my direction.

BRAuto_B.jpgTroy: What attracted you to write BloodRayne?

Kevin: Fame and fortune?

Troy: I heard that. I can barely keep the paparazzi at bay, and my bank account runneth other with BloodRayne bucks. I even hang out with Uwe Boll on Tuesdays. We play golf.

Kevin: Golf with Uwe? I figured it would be boxing.

Troy: I’m afraid he’d bite my ear off like Tyson.

Kevin: Nah, it was a chance to write a straight-up action story, which isn’t something I typically do. Most of the stories I write are supernatural-horror tales, or crime pieces, or some other combination. So, Automaton gave me a chance to stretch my muscles a little, while tossing in some of those supernatural/folklore elements that I love.

BloodRayne Raw 3

Digital Webbing | BloodRayne, Sneak Peek No Comments »

BRRAW3.jpgAs mentioned in the BloodRayne forum, there’s going to be a RAW III. Packed with the usual cool stuff the past RAW book had — such as sneak peeks at the upcoming mini-series — Tokyo Rogue, Old World Order, Ayano, and maybe even Zero Dawn. Plus some goodies from Prime Cuts.

We’re hoping to have a couple short stories in there as well. Who knows what’ll end up in there. But we know for certain, you don’t want to miss it.

Check out the cover — if that doesn’t scream “Buy Me!” then I don’t know what will. Look for BloodRayne: Raw III in comic shops in late Spring ‘08.

Sneak Peek / Ayano

Digital Webbing | Ayano, BloodRayne 2 Comments »

ayano_draft.gifIf you’ve been following the posts in our forum, you’ll know Troy and I are ready to unleash a major new character in the BloodRayne series. Her name is Ayano and you’re gonna love her. Ayano first appears in the Tokyo Rogue mini-series and from there we’re spinning her into her own one-shot drawn by Scott Clark (artist on such titles as Spawn/WildCATS, and Alpha Flight).

From there, you can catch her in Old World Order and Zero Dawn (the 2 BloodRayne mini-series after Tokyo Rogue). And if all goes according to plan, we can keep putting out Ayano one-shots and mini-series. Maybe even a crossover with BloodRayne and Billy Tucci’s Shi.

Here’s a preliminary drawing of Ayano as drawn by Don Walker. This is actually a digitized version of a fax. heh.
